Six Ping Bakery: Awake Before Much of Chinatown

by Jill Jarvis Leave a Comment

Six Ping Bakery Squid Roll with Bite
Address: 9889 Bellaire Blvd. STE D246, Houston, TX 77036 (plus more locations)

We were driving through Chinatown, on our way to Arthur Storey Park (and accidentally finding Teo Chew Temple) and stumbled into Six Ping Bakery.

This place is open when much of Chinatown is still sleeping… and is full of rolls, cookies and beautiful cakes. We found the red bean roll with custard skin and dinner rolls (which are plain white rolls that my son thinks taste better from a Taiwanese bakery).

Some of the rolls are shaped like squids or bears or pigs… and some are just regular rolls. All are a couple dollars.

We loved Six Ping so much that we made a second trip that same afternoon… and brought back the big kids and our best friends the next week.

It was on the last trip that I nearly had to preform the Heimlich on my friend that choked on a delicious sesame cracker while pointing out a police car to her toddler… and despite this traumatic experience, she still wanted to make a return trip with me.

If you are looking for red bean or taro stuffed buns, check out one of the Six Ping Bakeries. And if you need a very cute Hello Kitty or Angry Bird (or lots of others) cake, you need to see their display!

Jill Jarvis is the owner of JillBJarvis.com, a BigKidSmallCity.com and Things to Do in Houston, with Kids, blog!

She is the mom of 4 and started the website years ago... when she was tired of constantly cleaning up the same mess in the family room.

This inspired the blog and changed everything about how she enjoyed life in Houston, with kids!

On this website you will find a full list of Houston weekly events, things to do around the city, travel ideas and resources for parents.

I know just what it’s like to be overwhelmed by work, life and family. I spent a lot of years traveling for work, missing big milestones for my kids and feeling bad about everything.

I started this website to make a list of all the events happening around Houston and then pick one to enjoy with my kids. And instead of thinking of all the things I was missing, I started to enjoy the things we were doing together.

If you are a parent that is feeling overwhelmed by all the things you could be doing in Houston… please just use our weekly lists and daily posts as suggestions. Pick one thing to do with your family and intentionally ignore the rest!
