Mother’s Day at GreenStreet in Downtown Houston

by Jill Jarvis Leave a Comment

greenstreetDo you remember the old Houston Pavilions on Main Street in Downtown Houston? Well it has a whole new image and is now called GreenStreet. And they want you and Mom to check it out this weekend!

GreenStreet is a Class-A mixed-use development that includes the fully occupied, 11-story regional headquarters for NRG Energy, Inc., one of the largest power generating companies in the country, along with restaurants, retailers and venues including the House of Blues, Forever 21, III Forks, McCormick & Schmick’s and Lucky Strike.

Below are the suggestions from GreenStreet… but my personal request is for my kids to take me to Lucky Strike this weekend!

For an unforgettable dining experience, be sure to grab a seat inside House of Blues (located on the east-wing of GreenStreet at 1204 Caroline Street) on Sunday, May 12 as Grammy Award-winner Kirk Franklin joins forces with the concert venue to produce Gospel Brunch, a legendary dining and live music show complete with explosive high-energy performers, contemporary music and a plethora of southern cuisine. The all-you-can-eat Gospel Brunch menu features favorites such as cornbread muffins with maple butter, Creole chicken and shrimp jambalaya, chicken and waffles, carving stations, plus a create-your-own Bloody Mary and mimosa bar. Doors open at 11:30 a.m., but space is limited. To guarantee a spot at one of the hottest events this Mother’s Day weekend, be sure to purchase tickets by visiting http://www.houseofblues.com/tickets/eventdetail.php?eventid=80542.

Another popular GreenStreet dining spot for Moms is III Forks Steakhouse. Known for its rich cuts of USDA prime beef, this contemporary steakhouse also has a diverse menu filled with ocean-fresh seafood and over 1,500 wines to choose from. This Mother’s Day, mothers will enjoy a special offering of asparagus soup, crab-stuffed flounder and a mandarin orange cake, in addition to the restaurant’s traditional menu items. III Forks Steakhouse will be open for both lunch and dinner and is located at 1201 San Jacinto. For reservations or to view III Forks’ complete menu offerings, visit www.3forks.com or call 713-658-9457.

Finally, what’s a special occasion without a sweet treat? At McCormicks & Schmick’s Seafood & Steaks, not only will your mom be able to select from a special brunch or dinner menu filled with the finest steaks, seafood and entrée salads, she’ll also receive a complimentary offering of decadent chocolate truffles to top off her meal. As an added bonus, the restaurant also offers some of the best al fresco dining on its patio. So go ahead, soak up some sunshine and raise a glass to the best Mom in the world! The restaurant is located at 1201 Fannin and is open from 11 a.m. – 10 p.m. Monday thru Thursday, 11 a.m. – 11 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 4 p.m.- 9 p.m. on Sundays. For more information, visit McCormick & Schmick’s at http://www.mccormickandschmicks.com/Locations/houston-texas/houston-texas/fanninstreet.aspx.

Feeling a little full after your meal? Consider taking a leisurely stroll with Mom through the property and enjoy an afternoon of shopping at the many retailers and venues located at GreenStreet, including BCBG MAXAZRIA, Forever XXI and Lucky Strike Bowling.

I know just what it’s like to be overwhelmed by work, life and family. I spent a lot of years traveling for work, missing big milestones for my kids and feeling bad about everything.

I started this website to make a list of all the events happening around Houston and then pick one to enjoy with my kids. And instead of thinking of all the things I was missing, I started to enjoy the things we were doing together.

If you are a parent that is feeling overwhelmed by all the things you could be doing in Houston… please just use our weekly lists and daily posts as suggestions. Pick one thing to do with your family and intentionally ignore the rest!
