A Christmas Carol at Alley Theatre

Modified: Nov 17, 2025 by JillBJarvis.com Sponsored Post · This post may contain affiliate links · This blog generates income via ads · #sponsoredpost · 1 Comment

A Christmas Carol - A Ghost Story of Christmas, is at Alley Theatre, now through December 28, 2025!

We go every year and it perfect for getting us in the Christmas spirit. I'm always amazed at how they can do the same story each year... but still keep it fresh.

A Christmas Carol is suitable for general audiences (age 6+).

Here are some thoughts and tips from a few years of A Christmas Carol:

    1. A couple of my kids do not love the theater. That said, they insist on going each year.
    2. If you arrive early or stay late at Alley Theatre, you can take your pictures next to all the Christmas trees in the lobby.
    3. The show is very well done and there is not a bad seat in the house. The seats wrap around three sides of the stage. Last time we were very close to the stage and it was amazing. That said, the ghosts can be a little spooky so some kids might prefer to be a little further away.
    4. There is a popular hot chocolate bar in the lobby... and you can build your own hot chocolate with candy, sprinkles and pretty much everything and anything. The line gets super long and either you do not get to the front... or you end up trying to hurry up and drink a super hot chocolate. BUT, if you stop by before the show, you can enjoy the drink then, or pre-order for intermission.
    5. As for dress code, some people wear ballgowns and some wear jeans. Just find something festive and enjoy the show.
    6. All parking is paid in the Theater District (except on Sunday or after 6pm, when street parking is free). I prefer paid metered parking on the street... but I've had to arrive an hour early to find it.
    7. Kids do need to be 6+ to enter the theater. (My youngest is counting down to her turn.)

I love Dickens “Christmas Carol” and have enjoyed the Alley production for many years. My first time to see this production and what a surprise! It was a combination of tradition and energizing new components - both in production and scripting. The diversity of performers, the tidbits of humor, the intensity of the ghosts yet appropriate for young audiences. Watching the audience - they laughed, applauded the highlights and intently listened to the narration. We thought it was fabulous. Change can be challenging for those who value tradition - but this production reflects the diversity of Houston and it matters.
