Funky, Small (Free and Air Conditioned): The Houston Art Car Museum

    Art Car Museum Houston
Address: 140 Heights Blvd, Houston, TX 77007
Hours: Wednesday - Sunday, 11:00-6:00pm (Check to be sure it's not closed to bring in a new instation HERE.)
    Cost: Free
    Appropriate Age: Any age

The Art Car Museum is located in the Heights and is always free of charge. It has art cars as well as contemporary art. The museum’s goal is to "encourage the public’s awareness of the cultural, political, economic and personal dimensions of art".

The museum is funky and small (and free and air conditioned), making it just right for us.

Guests of all ages can get an up-close look at about 5 vehicles (that change every few months). The only trick is... no touching!

There is no parking lot at the museum and there are a few parallel parking spots on Heights Boulevard.

A visit takes about 20 minutes for us and is always a hit with my kids.

Are there any good, kid-friendly, inexpensive restaurants around? Want to put this up on our playgroup calendar, but it's far for most so lunch afterwards will be nice.

I wish Mission Burrito or Natachee's was closer to the Art Car Museum because they are my "go-to" spots. Still, there are a lot of options in the Heights. http://goo.gl/maps/88n6w If you go south on Heights and east on Washington, there is Star Pizza. Or if you go south on Heights until you pass Dallas, there is a Lubys. Or, in this same area, is the Montrose Whole Foods. http://goo.gl/maps/A4FFZ You could grab food and have a little picnic here.

Let me know if this helps. Also, let me know if I can make any other playdate suggestions. 🙂

Thanks for the suggestions. Star Pizza is perfect! The moms will appreciate the pizza & salad buffet
