Magic Soup (and Sandwiches) at Central Market

by Jill Jarvis Leave a Comment

Central Market Salad
Address: 3815 Westheimer Rd, Houston, TX 77027

A few years ago, my entire family was sick. A friend insisted on bringing Central Market soup, dropping it on the step and running from the germs.

Well, this soup turned out to be the magical cure to our week long flu… and since then, I’ve loved Central Market.

Central Market Soups
I don’t often review grocery stores in our weekly restaurant review… but, well, this one has magic soup.

So, let me tell you about this popular, and casual, lunch spot.

At the side of the store, there are several counters for you to pick up food. You can make a sandwich, salad or grab that magic soup. Once you get your food, you pay at the counter.

Central Market Build Your Own Sandwich
So, we grabbed some soup and “built our own” sandwich… and it was giant. Since it was vegetarian we could add 6 toppings, and it could have fed two. (Meat sandwiches get 4 other toppings.)

They also have kid sandwiches for a little less… and with fewer toppings.

Central Market Kids Meal Sandwich
Once we got our food, paid at the counter, we headed upstairs to sit on the balcony (by the cooking school). There is also seating downstairs (inside and out), but upstairs as pretty quiet and more restaurant-like.

One thing to note is that Central Market is doing a lot of renovations right now… but the cafe area is open and there is still a lot of free parking.

I know just what it’s like to be overwhelmed by work, life and family. I spent a lot of years traveling for work, missing big milestones for my kids and feeling bad about everything.

I started this website to make a list of all the events happening around Houston and then pick one to enjoy with my kids. And instead of thinking of all the things I was missing, I started to enjoy the things we were doing together.

If you are a parent that is feeling overwhelmed by all the things you could be doing in Houston… please just use our weekly lists and daily posts as suggestions. Pick one thing to do with your family and intentionally ignore the rest!
