VegFest Houston – June 9, 2012 – St. Stephen’s Campus in Montrose

Does the word “Vegan” make you uncomfortable?  The thought of being Vegan or eating Vegan food makes some people cringe.  But what if you think of the words “plant based” instead?

I’m a carnivore.  But even though I like to eat steak, I do know that a plant based diet is much healthier for me and my family.   I also know from my BROTHER that a plant based diet helps to lower cholesterol, reduce the risk of disease and improve physical fitness.  I also know from his cooking, that plant based food can taste really good.  (And if I don’t have to do the cooking, it tastes really really good.)

So with this in mind, we’re going to check out VegFest Houston on June 9, 2012 at the St. Stephen’s Campus in Montrose.  Look for details HERE.

VegFest will have food, speakers, kid zone, workshops, vendors, music and more.  Stop by and check it out!

    Hey, Jill,

Thanks for the nice write-up. That’s great that you’re going to stop by VegFest Houston. Your brother will be proud of you!

Sorry that Craig didn’t attribute his rising-star status to you. I’m sure he will in his next interview…. which will be when he opens his own vegan restaurant — in Houston, perhaps? 🙂

Did you know there’s a new word, coined by psychologist Melanie Joy, that is actually more accurate than the word “carnivore” in describing meat-eaters? It’s “carnist.” Find its meaning here: http://www.carnism.com/carnism.htm

Again, thanks for doing a VegFest shout-out!

      Susan –

Thanks for the comment. My brother dreams of opening a vegan restaurant in Houston.

You will probably appreciate that my 4 year old figured out where meat comes from and could not “get the killing out of his head”. He’s been a vegetarian for a month (with no end in sight) and has pushed our little family to a mostly plant based diet.

      Thanks for VegFest!

I will be honored to meet your four-year-old son if he comes to VegFest with you, Jill.

He can play with other vegetarian (and vegan) kids in the Kid’s Zone. Maybe when they grow up they’ll all be working in Craig’s Bayou City vegan bistro, before branching out to start their own compassionate kitchens! 🙂
