Meet Sarah Coin of Coin & Confetti! Houston Mom Turning Your Gathering into a Memorable Celebration!

by Jill Jarvis Leave a Comment

At BigKidSmallCity, we believe the more we know about the people of Houston, the smaller our city feels. And who better to meet than a Houston mom creating simple and sophisticated party accessories to turn your gathering into a memorable celebration?!

Sarah Coin of Coin and Confetti
Meet Sarah Coin of Coin & Confetti! In her own words, she tells us about her family, her business and what she likes about Houston!

I am a mom to two adorable, energetic kiddos- James is 3 ½ and Isabelle is 20 months. My incredibly patient husband and I are both native Houstonians and have lots of family around, so putting roots down around here was a no-brainer. We moved to Katy two years ago and love it!

I’ve been crafting for as long as I can remember. In college, I majored in Fashion Design and spent my days designing and creating clothes. When my son’s first birthday came around, I discovered Pinterest and was completely hooked.

I’ve been crafting and DIY-ing my way through life ever since! I’ve become notorious for my craftiness in my neighborhood moms’ group.

Several months ago, some friends in my neighborhood began asking me to make decorations for their kids’ parties. That gave me the motivation I needed to pursue my dream of launching my own business. So, at the beginning of this year, Coin & Confetti was born!

I love working with paper and tissue paper to create party decorations. It’s amazing how a few simple touches can turn a regular gathering into a memorable celebration and that is exactly what I want to offer with Coin & Confetti.

I create simple and sophisticated party accessories: banners, cake & cupcake toppers, balloon poppers, and, of course, confetti! My designs are completely customizable for any event- baby showers, weddings, 80th birthdays, you name it! Everything is handmade, from the handcut tissue tassels and confetti to the banners that I assemble and string together while my kids are sleeping down the hall. I’ve recently launched an Etsy site to make my line available to party planners everywhere!

You can join the Coin & Confetti party on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and Pinterest. I love seeing pictures of how people use my products in their parties! I also have a blog at CoinAndConfetti.com where I write about crafting, design, and give sneak peaks at the new goodies I’m working on!

What do I like best about Houston? I’ve lived here my whole life, so Houston is home to me. I love taking my kids to some of the places that I went to as a kid and seeing how they have changed and how they’ve stayed the same. There are so many things to do in Houston. I’ve lived here for over thirty years and I’m still discovering new places all the time! Now that I have kids, it’s fun looking at the city from a different perspective.

My son is really into the Houston Zoo, especially since the new baby elephant was born! We love heading over there in the morning, looking at the animals, and then going to the splash pad to cool off.

On rainy days, we enjoy going to the Houston Museum of Natural Science. The dinosaurs and the Butterfly Museum are our favorites!

I also love taking them to City Centre or La Centerra for a little shopping and then running around the green and getting a treat. That keeps everyone happy!

I think our favorite annual event in Houston would have to be the Renaissance Festival. We never miss the Fire Whip Show! We also have an annual tradition of driving around Prestonwood Forest in Northwest Houston to look at Christmas Lights while we drink hot cocoa. Big, gaudy light displays are my favorite!

I know just what it’s like to be overwhelmed by work, life and family. I spent a lot of years traveling for work, missing big milestones for my kids and feeling bad about everything.

I started this website to make a list of all the events happening around Houston and then pick one to enjoy with my kids. And instead of thinking of all the things I was missing, I started to enjoy the things we were doing together.

If you are a parent that is feeling overwhelmed by all the things you could be doing in Houston… please just use our weekly lists and daily posts as suggestions. Pick one thing to do with your family and intentionally ignore the rest!
