Aylen read through this book with amazing dedication and then put it on my night stand and suggested that I do the same. I am three quarters through the book and if I were not pregnant and oh, so tired all the time, I would be up tonight until the wee hours finishing this story. Think Cinderella but with a more interesting female character elements.
The story is about a maiden who lives in the country of Frell. Her name is Ella and she has been cursed by a careless fairy at birth who thought the gift of obedience would be the perfect gift to bestow upon her. She is very close to her mother until she dies, but before she does, she warns and commands her not to mention her curse to anyone.
So now under the orders of her mother and the curse from Lucida, the fairy, Ella tries to live her life as best as she can obey the seeming well meaning orders of family and strangers. Even though she cannot inform anyone of her curse, some people with less than honorable intentions figure out that she is unable to disobey direct orders and take advantage of her. As Ella described it, “She was in danger every moment.”
Along the way, Ella meets a handsome prince and falls in love with him and he in return is smitten with her. Her curse, as you can imagine, causes several problems throughout their courtship. Will their romance overcome its many obstacles and will they live happily ever after?
I have changed my mind. I will read until the wee hours tonight and find out!
This book is perfect for any second grader that loves to read! After discovering this author’s wonderful first person narrative, I cannot wait to check out more books by her!
