Every time someone tells me about a good Houston park, I add it to my list of places to visit. This park was recommended so many times, it could have filled an entire page in my beat up notebook.
We finally got out to Burroughs Park last week… and I now know why so many families like it!
We found parking and dozens and dozens of families picnicking and hosting birthday parties. People were everywhere, but the park is so big and there are so many tables and barbecue grills that it was not crowded at all.
There are 5 playgrounds, all within walking distance, and the most unusual feature was the “porch swing”. There was a place for your feet so you could push the swing while you sat down. My kids thought this was the very coolest part… and learned pretty quickly not to fight over the swings while they were moving. (So you might want to keep your little kids a good distance away.)
What’s even cooler is the big lake that is stocked with rainbow trout by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department and also contains bluegill, channel catfish, and largemouth bass. (Catch-and-release fishing is encouraged.)
A lot of ducks are by the water, and feeding them was our favorite part (after the porch swings).
