Next September, HoustonISD will open the first Arabic Immersion School. This public school located in the Houston Heights begins with Preschool and Kindergarten and will add a grade level each year.
Kids will spend half of the day speaking English and half of the day speaking Arabic. The standard HISD curriculum is taught… but half of it is in a new language. So instead of being taught the language, like how I learned (and forgot) Spanish in High School, the kids are immersed in the language, like someone who moves to Egypt and learns and retains it.
I am a fan of immersion education and excited to see HoustonISD add another program… but do you know what I like even better? The principal of this new Arabic Immersion School is a Houston Mom.
Kate Adams grew up in both Houston, Texas and Cairo, Egypt and is leading the very first Arabic Immersion school in the United States!
She tells us about the school in THIS video!
