Today’s book review is of Frankenstein Makes a Sandwich by Adam Rex.
Do you have a sense of humor?
Do your kids like monsters?
Do you like poetry?
If you answered “yes” to these questions, then this is the book for you. This book is incredible! It is about classic monsters doing incredibly mundane things in their day to day activities.
In nineteen poems, Adam Rex covers a variety of creatures, icons, and references.
My girls especially love ‘The Yeti Doesn’t Appreciate Being Called Bigfoot’. It is about a yeti, who is upset that he too is referred to as Bigfoot even though his feet are not nearly as big (or stinky) as Bigfoot’s. Also, did you know that Bigfoot’s real name is Ruth?
A runner up favorite is about a hygienically challenged Dracula who walks around with spinach in his teeth and the Phantom of the Opera who has ‘It’s A Small World After All’ stuck in his head is not far behind.
I was a huge fan of Godzilla movies when I was a kid so page 39, where the title on that poem is ‘Godzilla Pooped on My Honda’, is perfect for me!
Do you want to find out what the Hunchback of Notre Dame takes for lunch? Or would you like to know what motivates Frankenstein to storm villages? Buy this book and find out!
Bonus if you love this book, there is a sequel! Adam Rex and his monstrous talent (sorry) have followed this book with Frankenstein Takes the Cake!
