Magical Winter Lights In La Marque… Now Through January 5, 2020!
Magical Winter Lights is open for the season!
This is a 20-acre lantern festival with themed lantern sections, nightly acrobatic performances, carnival rides and games, an interactive dinosaur area and lots of holiday fun!
Magical Winter Lights has more than 100 individual lantern sets in eight unique themed sections. Find lantern renditions of landmarks of the world, a Christmas village, skylines of Houston, the mysterious East, a Dino fun zone and more!
I am so glad that Magical Winter Lights invited us out again this year and we made the drive south to La Marque.
We arrived at opening and were able to see the festival in the light… and capture the best photos at dusk… just before it got too dark for this amateur photographer! And then we got to see everything in the dark, when it becomes extra magical!
We took one lap around Magical Winter Lights to see what was new… and then took another lap to see it all in the dark. We especially liked the ice castle, giant mermaid, the Houston skyline and the light up checker board dance floor… that changes colors as you walk on it!
After the second lap, the boys went to the carnival while the girls got a front row seat for the live performances. The acrobats were great!

This festival is in the parking lot of the stadium (much like the rodeo takes over the NRG parking lot)… and it’s very big. Half of it is a lantern festival with world landmarks you will recognize, dinosaurs and much much more. The other half is a stage with live entertainment and a carnival.
There are some slides between the lanterns, some spots for photos and a lot of interactive things to do in the dinosaur tent. Also, the snow sisters visit daily by the ice castle!
The carnival rides are extra, so either get ready to buy a $22 (online) all you can ride wristband or tell the kids you are only doing the lights and entertainment (which is all included in the admission price).
General admission is $22+ for adults, $13+ for kids and free for kids under 4. You can get a family four pack for $76. Parking is $5 (CASH only onsite). Magical Winter Lights is open daily through January 5, 2020, including holidays. (Look for discounts on the website and at Costco.)
Strollers can be brought in and there is plenty of room to maneuver. No outside food or drinks are allowed, but there are a lot of food options inside the festival. There are no real restrooms, but there are port-a-potties. (Go to Buc-ees before you arrive!) Also, I did see a baby changing tent this year.
There are also special tents for birthday parties and events.
Magical Winter Light’s is a bit of a drive from Houston… but it brings us right by our favorite Buc-ee’s location (and we adore Bucc-ee’s) and the festival is worth the drive. It can be expensive, but it is our favorite holiday light show around town and we look forward to it each year.
