Fortunately, the Milk by Neil Gaiman – Books for Kids to Read
We were at the local library last week where my daughter spotted this new Neil Gaiman book and squealed with delight! As soon as she grabbed it, I knew that it was coming home with us and that I would be buying a copy as soon as she was done with it to add to her ever growing library.
All us mothers know that when we leave the kid with Dad, we are not sure what can happen. A lot of times we come home to see that baths have not been taken and homework has not been completed. Or at least I do.
Well, here is a father that makes your mate look great! As soon as their mum jets off to a conference to present her paper on lizards, the first meal, dinner, happens seamlessly at an Indian restaurant. The first disaster occurs at breakfast the next day when there isn’t any milk for the cereal.
The father runs down to the corner store for more but doesn’t return for ages. When he does return, he explains that he had been on a hot-air balloon ride with a stegosaurus. After confronting aliens, volcano gods, and other fiends, he makes it back home, WITH the milk along with a great story as to why he was late.
My daughter is six and she enjoyed this book immensely. Halfway through the book she wasn’t really sure where the book was going because she is kind of a serious kid, but as soon as she saw that the father was full of it and that his story was an outrageous tale, she declared that it was one of the best books that she has ever read!
