Books for Kids to Read – Little Witch by Anna Elizabeth Bennett – BigKidSmallCity Book Reviews

This is Felicia!   My girls and I love exploring Houston and we love to read.

This review is of Little Witch by Anna Elizabeth Bennett.

So, I will admit that the first thing that attracted me to this book was the cute little witch on the cover with the bright purple background.  I bought it for my girls right before our road trip to Minnesota to keep them entertained.  The reading comprehension is light enough for my 5 year old to understand and interesting enough to keep my 7 year old engrossed.  They have actually read and then reread this book more times than I can count.

The book is about a little witch named Minikin Snickasnee, Minx for short, who wants to go to school and make friends instead of riding around with her mother terrorizing villagers and concocting potions. Her mother, the evil Madam Snickasnee, doesn’t understand why her daughter wants to wash behind her ears and go to school.

One day, Minx decides that she has had enough, and rebels and sneaks off to school on her broom to the surprise and amusement of the campus. Spunky Minx, who reminds me a lot of my 5 year old, decides to brew a spell of her own, without the supervision of her mother, and chaos ensues.

Minx finally makes the friends that she wants and learns several valuable heartwarming lessons at her new school while realizing who she is.

This sweet book always tops annual lists of the “most in demand” out of print books. I can certainly see why. Fortunately you won’t have to hunt around for a copy because this year the 60th anniversary edition is ready for purchase.

Go HERE to find the book on Amazon.  Or, better yet, shop local and head to Brazos Bookstore.  If you mention you saw this review on BigKidSmallCity, you will get a discount… and get to read the book immediately!
